The Moment Of Satisfication And Pride Being A Metal Fanatic - Ne Obliviscaris - "And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope" Studied At Sydney Conservatorium Of Music

I was extremely mortified to get this update on MetalStorm.net:

Australian metallers Ne Obliviscaris (pronounced "Nay Ob-li-vis-kar-is", means Do Not Forget in Latin) have seen their song "And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope" from their debut album Portal Of I included in a teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, one of Australia's most prestigious classical Conservatories. The song will undergo a compositional analysis by Professor Matthew Hindson, Chair of Composition at the Conservatorium. "And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope" will be studied as part of the curriculum.
Matthew Hindson is a renowned classical composer whose works have been performed by ensembles and orchestras throughout the world.
Professor Hindson commented: "I will be presenting 'And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope' to the composition students at the Conservatorium next semester as an exemplar in structure, mixing timbres, meters, modes, how to approach virtuosity, sound and noise, extended performance and techniques. The students will need to study 2 technical aspects of what Ne Obliviscaris have done in their music, and then use these techniques in their own classical music compositions."
The Professor continues: "It is my pleasure to introduce such high quality music making to our students, alongside other music by composers including Beethoven, Gershwin, Steve Reich and Peter Sculthorpe. Musicians deserve to hear the music of Ne Obliviscaris, and the music of many other metal bands, in order to appreciate the compositional complexity that lies within it, no matter what their musical tastes."
Melbourne's NE OBLIVISCARIS stand apart from their peers by infusing metal with avante-garde approaches to jazz, flamenco guitars, and progressive black metal. With adventurous, progressive, and nuanced compositions NE OBLIVISCARIS is a band with profound depth and a musical proficiency at the highest levels. With their first demo 'The Aurora Veil' in 2007, NE OBLIVISCARIS garnered significant word-of-mouth within the metal underground. In 2012, their self produced debut album, 'Portal of I' showcased their unique array of influences and dynamic songwriting, and sent shock waves through the metal underground once again. Met with even more praise, 'Portal of I' made several "Best of 2012" lists (Metal Hammer Germany (January issue), No Clean Singing, Metal Injection)"

I first started following this band over a year ago when their debut album "Portal Of I" just released. The reason was somewhat shameful: oh, their band name sounds interestingly exotic, the songs' names are fun and the cover is great, why not take a look? Furthermore, by this time last year I was in a musical depression: I had absolutely nothing to listen to! The same old Thrash / Heavy Metal / Rock scene bored me to the bones and I couldn't take any more of it. I needed a refreshment! And that led to the discovery to the Metal scene.

Debut album PORTAL OF I

I was blown away (not literally), but this band is unworldly. I have never encountered a debut album this great. The composition and performance dazed me: employing violin in a metal album, how about that? Their songs are generally long with a lot of twists, melodies, ingredients and different feelings. They can be classical, smooth like a lullaby, then become bombastic, ear-grinding and savage. Classics and Metal stand juxtaposed. I was hook, I was so sold. This is happening: magic.

I've been following them ever since and have pushed the Replay button numerous times. This is why I am so shock and proud as hearing this amazing news. Their song "And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope" will be  included in a teaching curriculum at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, one of Australia's most prestigious classical Conservatories.

It's such a terrific experience seeing the band you think that is so underground and underrated stepping our from the dark. This act is unbelievable, especially since they're a new band (not really, but considering this is their official debut), this is a true honour as stated on their official Facebook page:

In what is possibly the biggest compliment of our career so far, our song 'And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope' is being studied and analysed by composition students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music alongside composers such as Beethoven & Gershwin! Seriously! Totally blown away...

It breaks the same old prejudice about metal being superficial and having nothing - no soul - no melodies - no complication but growls and shameless guitars screaming, being not worth caring about. This is happening. As a metal fan, I'm so utterly proud and excited. NE OBLIVISCARIS is certainly a band that you would want to not only take a look at, but also experiment and enjoy. Let yourself be blown away, forget your thinking path - just music and its fusion.
