Makeup Academy MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer - Atomic + Kooky

You have no idea how happy I was to receive my little (well, not really) package from MUA which I ordered almost a month ago but was only delivered now. The Makeup Academy MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer (£3.00, I cannot find this piece of information either on the tube or on the packaging but on their website it states 6ml) is their exciting new launch that was the main reason why I placed my order. The line consists of five shades: Criminal (bright pink), Funk (bright pink with a little strawberry twist), Reckless (red), Atomic (neon orange) and Kooky (deep purple). They were launched around the end of last year but have been almost always sold out. Today I have two of the shades to show you.
Smooch your way to red carpet glamour with MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers. Long - lasting and kiss proof, these intense formulas come in five rich, vampy shades. Encased in chic frosted glass packaging, these lacquers glide on with the ease of a gloss, drying in seconds into a matte velvety texture. They are the ultimate make-up bag must have.
Ingredients: Polyethylene, Polybutene, Cetearyl Alcohol, Isododecane, Dimethicone, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Silica, Cyclomethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ozokerite

The product comes in a frost glass tube that is in fact made of plastic with a black cap and gold letterings. I find these features very luxe as the name suggests. Who would have guessed these are only £3.00 a pop? They are well-made, looks much chicer and fancier than any other packaging decisions from MUA.  The doe-foot applicator is lovely too, I have nothing to complain about the appearance, yet there seems to be quite a high pressure inside the tube so it takes a little effort to twist the cap back securely.

  • Atomic: bright, almost neon orange, dries very matte
  • Kooky: deep purple that has a litter pink undertone if applied lightly but can be built up to a blackened vampy purple, dries a little more satin-looking
I find Atomic dries a little faster than Kooky, but generally I waited about 5-7 minutes for them to dry completely to a very matte finish that accentuates dry patches and makes my lips look more wrinkly (but then, any matte lip creams do). During the wait, do NOT press your lips together since the product will stick together and leave patches on your lips, which seriously does not look cute. However, since it does not dry immediately, you can make any corrections and build up the intensity (better within the first 1-2 minutes).

The formulation offers intense complete coverage in the very first coat and once it dries: it stays, and stays for hours. It is smudge-proof and non-transfering unless you eat very oily food. As the picture below suggests, I rubbed very harshly on the swatches and they went nowhere. I could only manage to succesfully remove them with an oil-based makeup remover, and it did take some time to wipe them off.

Are they pretty? Yes. Are they affordable? Yes. Are they worth a try? Oh yes. You won't regret.
